Project: ĆIRO – World Heritage Route
Activities: Two cycling events and a promotional media tour
Locations: Cultural tourism sites along the historic Ćiro railway route, Herzegovina
Participants: Over 170 cyclists and 20 media representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina
Implementing partner: REDAH – Regional Development Agency for Herzegovina
Donor: EU4Business, co-funded by the European Union (15 million EUR) and the Federal Republic of Germany (1.1 million EUR), implemented by GIZ, ILO and UNDP
Three Events, Three Formats
Each of the three activities had its own logic, target group and organisational requirements.
Cycling Event 1
A 60-kilometre circular route starting and finishing in Čapljina. The programme included stops at Počitelj, Stolac, the Radimlja stećci necropolis and the medieval fortress of Vidoški. The route was designed to give participants direct contact with UNESCO-listed heritage sites along the Ćiro corridor.Cycling Event 2
This route took participants through Hutovo Blato nature park, along the old Ćiro railway track to Zavala in Ravno, with an organised return to Čapljina in the afternoon. The route covered some of the least-visited and most ecologically significant areas in the region.Promotional Media Tour
A dedicated format for 20 journalists and editors from media houses across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The tour covered Počitelj, the Radimlja necropolis, the Vidoški fortress, Stolac, the Boljuni necropolis, Ravno, the Vjetrenica cave, the monastery in Zavala and the return to Čapljina. Each location required separate coordination of arrival, timing and guided interpretation.What MICE.BA Delivered

Organising a Media Tour Is a Different Kind of Work
Journalists and editors operate with deadlines and editorial priorities. They decide for themselves what is worth writing about. A media tour only works if the programme gives them a genuine reason to write.
In parallel with the on-site programme, MICE.BA prepared press materials, created content for online platforms and distributed press releases throughout the project period. The project generated over 185 mentions in print, television and online media in Bosnia and Herzegovina. That is the result of a planned media strategy and a tour that gave journalists something to write about.
Outdoor Logistics Along a UNESCO Heritage Route
All three events took place outdoors along the historic Ćiro railway route, which runs through some of the most significant cultural heritage sites in Herzegovina. The Vjetrenica cave is one of the richest cave ecosystems in Europe. The Radimlja and Boljuni stećci necropolises are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. Počitelj and the Vidoški fortress are sites that few destinations in the region can match.
Organising outdoor events in locations like these carries a responsibility toward the heritage itself. MICE.BA knows these locations, understands their specific conditions and knows how to integrate them into an event programme in a way that gives participants real context rather than a surface-level visit.
The events were organised during the cooler months. Changeable weather conditions affected the schedule on certain days. A contingency plan was in place and the programme was completed without disruption.
